Materia Air was founded by Swiss musician Claudio Puntin. The foundation of this ensemble is the first, most direct, and sensual element that can be experienced in musical contact: sound.
The instruments that provide access to the "sound karma" are rare constructions, capable of immediately transporting the deepest emotional states of creative and sensual dedication.
The Orgalitho is an instrument made from dozens of chromatically tuned, very heavy stone plates. It is played by rubbing the surface with the palm of the hand, creating an organ-like sound. These sounds have a mythical effect and fill large spaces with magic. The Lithophone is a marimba-like instrument with chromatically tuned stone plates and a sustain pedal. It is played like a vibraphone and will be performed for the first time in Berlin by one of Europe's leading mallet players, Julius Apriadi.
Claudio Puntin, the clarinetist, plays on unique and rare clarinets. Twenty-five years ago, he encouraged the Munich instrument maker Benedikt Eppelsheim to build a new type of contrabass clarinet, and in this concert, he will play the first prototype. Additionally, one of the first contralto clarinets by Selmer Paris, made of rosewood and tuned in E-flat, will be featured. This instrument is often described as having the most poetic sound of all woodwind instruments.
This trio will perform for the first time in Germany at the Emmaus Church, with music following the poetic nature of the sounds produced by this instrumentation.
